Ambassador Designate Mr. Glenn Davidson met with Ambassador Barna Karimi

Designated Ambassador to Afghanistan, His Excellency Glenn Davidson, paid an official visit to Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Ottawa and met with His Excellency Barna Karimi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Canada.

H. E. Ambassador Davidson, who is very enthusiastic to resume his position in Kabul very soon, was conveying a message of support from the Canadian Government to Afghanistan and mentioned that it would be a very important assignment for him after serving in Syria as Canadian Ambassador.

Ambassador Davidson served in Canadian Navy until 1991. Further to that, he was posted to the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan as a military attaché until 1995. He continued his Military career until he was promoted to rear admiral in 2000 and in 2002 became a Commander of the Order of Military Merit.

In 2004 he was appointed the Canadian military representative to the NATO Military Committee in NATO Headquarters in Brussels. He held this position until 2008. Ambassador Davidson served as Canada's Ambassador to Syria from 2008 until 2012. In August 2011, he was appointed as Canada's Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The oilfield of Aqina and Andkhuy seismic contract has been signed with a Canadian Company (Terasize)
May 15, 2012

Seismic investigations contract, the oilfield of Aqina and Andkhuy (for the purpose of determing the structures of oil wells of Aqina and Andkhuy) today it has been signed by Mr Wahidullah Sharani the Minister of Mines and Mr. john the head of Terasize limited.

According to this contract seismic, method of clarifying and approving the structures of anticline for refinement of oil and gas. The total distance of Aqina and Ankhoy areas are 236 Km2 and its total expense is 6, 5 million $ from internal budget. After the approval, these projects will start and will be completed at maximum period of three months, and the result of these investigations will be announced.

Australia Pledges $300 Million Toward Afghan Transition Process
May 15 , 2012
Australia, a military ally of the U.S., will contribute $300 million starting 2015 to support Afghanistan’s forces after the Asian nation becomes responsible for its own security, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said today.

The government will contribute $100 million a year for three years, Gillard, who attends a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit on Afghanistan in Chicago on May 20-21, said in a statement.

Announcement by President Hamid Karzai on the Official Launch of Transition Tranche 3
May 13, 2012
In the meeting of the National Security Council held on May 13, 2012, President Hamid Karzai made the below decisions following in-depth review of the recommendations and proposals by the Transition Commission, Ministries of Defense, the Interior and the National Security Directorate:

* The 3rd stage of the Transition shall cover all the provincial capitals throughout Afghanistan;
* Upon completion of the third phase, a total number of 260 administrative units that account for 75 % of the entire population will have been covered by the Transition Process across Afghanistan. The third phase of the process takes to 11 the number of provinces where security responsibilities will have been transferred in its entirety;

National Security Council Meeting Talks 3rd Transition Tranche
May 9 , 2012
A meeting of the National Security Council chaired by President Karzai on Thursday discussed issues and preparations underway for the third phase of the transition of security responsibilities from foreign to Afghan forces.

It was agreed that the final decision for the 3rd Tranche be made in the next meeting of the Security Council and the official launch of the process be announced.

The meeting, among other senior government officials, was also attended by NATO commander, NATO civilian representative and the US Ambassador to Afghanistan.


 
Ambassador Barna Karimi met with a group of Afghan Students from Ottawa and Carleton Universities
May 9, 2012

His Excellency, Barna Karimi, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Canada met with a group of Afghan Students representing all Afghan Students from Ottawa and Carleton Universities at the Embassy on May 8th, 2012.

Students awarded Ambassador Barna Karimi with a plaque of appreciation for the support and contribution towards various humanitarian projects and cultural events organized by them.

Ambassador Karimi briefed students about the current situation, progress and achievements that is happening in Afghanistan and encouraged them to continue their studies and work harder, because their country need them, and mentioned that we have long way to completely rebuild Afghanistan. He also explained the importance of the Canada-Afghanistan relationship for the best interest of both countries.

Students were assured by the Ambassador that this Embassy will support and provide assistance to them at all times.


 
Strengthening United Nations coherence and coordination in Afghanistan

KABUL –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting on better coordination and coherence of the United Nations activities in Afghanistan this afternoon.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jan Kubis, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and some cabinet ministers and other representatives of different government institutions.

President Karzai: Afghanistan and the United States will work on a Security Pact following the Strategic Partnership Agreement
May 3, 2012
President Hamid Karzai addressed journalists at a press conference held today in the Presidential palace where he pointed to a security pact following the strategic partnership agreement, that Afghanistan and the United States plan to work on to regulate Afghan-US military relations in the transformation decade (2014-2024).

President Karzai said, talks on the security pact would be even more difficult than the negotiations held on the strategic agreement and Afghanistan is going to agree to sign this pact with America only if national interests of Afghanistan are taken into account.

Afghan Ambassadors to the “Heart of Asia” countries meet to further the Istanbul Process

vKABUL - Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a two day meeting on 5th and 6th of May where Afghan Ambassadors to the ‘Heart of Asia” countries gathered to prepare for the Kabul Conferece due to be convened within the Istanbul Process framework.

Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul said, “strengthening regional cooperation is one of the main pillars of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s foreign policy, and today’s meeting is convened to
implement Afghan Government’s vision for confidence building and regional integration.”

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan concluded his trip to Canada
May 3, 2012

Following a successful three day visit to Canada, His Excellency Daoud Ali Najafi, concluded his trip and left Ottawa on May 3rd, 2012.

The significance of his trip was to discuss, approve and endorse Afghanistan Civil Aviation Roadmap in a special committee meeting with His Excellency Roberto Kobeh Conzalea, President of International Civil Aviation Organization, Secretary General of ICAO, representatives of the European Union, Germany, India, Japan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Minister Najafi also visited Ottawa and met with Canadian officials and spoke at a roundtable at Conference of Defence Association Institute, and talked about past 10 years achievements in Afghanistan, challenges and progress.


 
Joint Statement by India and Afghanistan on the Visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan to India

At the invitation of Shri S.M. Krishna, External Affairs Minister, H.E. Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, is currently on a visit to India. The Ministers co-chaired the inaugural session of the India-Afghanistan Partnership Council which has been mandated to implement the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by the Prime Minister and the President of Afghanistan in October 2011. The meeting of the Partnership Council was preceded by a meeting of the Joint Working Group on Political and Security Consultations headed by Foreign Secretary and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan. During his visit the Afghan Foreign Minister called on Prime Minister and held meetings with Finance Minister and National Security Adviser on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest..

Afghanistan’s Civil Aviation Roadmap is approved and endorsed

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan considers the endorsement of Civil Aviation Roadmap for Afghanistan with cooperation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), representatives of the European Union, Germany, India, Japan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), as being a step closer to a vision of self sufficient Civil Aviation system in Afghanistan.

This document was approved and endorsed during a special meeting at the ICAO headquarter in Montreal, by His Excellency Dr. Daoud Ali Najafi, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan, His Excellency Roberto Kobeh Conzalea, President of the Council of ICAO and its International Partners.

Holding of the Sixth Meeting of the Trilateral Core Group of Afghanistan – Pakistan – USA

Kabul – The sixth meeting of the trilateral Core Group of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan – Islamic Republic of Pakistan – United States of America is to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan from April 26 to 27, 2012, hosted by Jalil Abbas Jilani, Foreign Secretray of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The core group is an important framework for talks and dialogue as well as attracting practical support of these two countries, particularly the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, for the Afghan Peace Process that is run under the leadership and ownership of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

His Excellency Barna Karimi, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Canada received a number of afghan community members from Montreal
April 18, 2012
A group of Afghan Community members from Montreal, representing Afghans in that city visited the Embassy on Wednesday and welcomed the Ambassador in his new posting. Ambassador Karimi welcomed them to the Embassy and reminded them that they are welcome anytime to visit the Embassy and give their ideas which could help Afghanistan. Ambassador Karimi reminded them that Afghanistan is in need of their help and the Embassy would facilitate their productive insight about Afghanistan.

 
Afghanistan Ambassador To Canada met with Afghan Community members from Ottawa
April 10, 2012

A group of Afghan community members from Ottawa visited the Embassy on Tuesday April 10 to meet the new Ambassador. They welcomed and praised the new Ambassador, His Excellency Barna Karimi, to this post and promised to be in touch with the Embassy at all time and to support this office as an official door to the Government and People of Afghanistan.

Ambassador Karimi welcomed their support and promised them that this Embassy will be there when any support needed, also this Embassy can help and faciliatete the Afghan community all over Canada.

Ambassador also mentioned that the door will be open to every single one of
them, at any time for any consulate services.
